Once
you have completed your flight training and all the
written exams, and you have reached a safe and
competent standard, your instructor will put you
forward for the final test - the Skills test. This
is conducted by one of our resident CAA examiners
who will put you through your paces. Don't worry -
if you have completed the course and prepared
yourself well, you will have no problem with this
final test. And once passed, you will soon be the
proud holder of a Private Pilots Licence.
Subject
to certain conditions (which will be covered during
your course of training), your privileges as a PPL
holder will be to act, but not for remuneration, as
pilot-in-command or co-pilot of any aeroplane
engaged in non revenue flights, in weather
conditions known as Visual Meteorological
Conditions, (VMC).
In
practical terms, this means you can now nip into
Ops and pick up the keys to a plane and start
enjoying flights with family and friends. All our
training aircraft are available for self-fly hire,
with the cost reduced by around £30 per hour.
And as a club, we have an extensive range of social
events and fly-outs throughout the year, where you
can meet other pilots and broaden your range of
skills.
Once
you have your licence there are a number of things
you will need to do to keep your licence valid and
therefore legal. Your instructor will take you
through the complexities in more detail; however,
in short, you will need to complete a minimum of 12
hours flying within a 24 month period, with at
least 12 hours being flown in the last 12 months of
that period, as well as an bi-annual check out with
an instructor to ensure you haven't picked up any
of those bad habits! You will also need to ensure
that your medical is valid.
Flying
is a fascinating, challenging and hugely rewarding
pastime, and no brochure will ever do it justice.
Have a go, and experience it for
yourself......
